The Myles Scully Division #1 of Yonkers hosted its Annual Communion Breakfast at St. Joseph’s Seminary this past weekend. Over 175 people were in attendance to hear guest speaker Bishop John O’Hara, who is the Vicar of Southern Manhattan and Staten Island.
The Hibernians were welcomed back to the Dunwoodie by Seminary Rector Msgr. Peter Vaccari and Dean of Seminarians Fr. Nicholas Zientarski, who co-celebrated the mass with Bishop O’Hara. As per custom, the seminary agreed to once again allow The McSweeney Chalice to be used in the celebration of the Mass.
Division #1 also presented Peter Van Slyck with the James G. McGinty Hibernian of the Year Award. Peter is a long time member of Division #1, and has played a vital role in helping the Division achieve success over the past decade. Peter is a Yonkers Police Officer and currently serves as the President of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester County.
Division #1 also was able to present the seminary with a $1,000 pledge in support of vocations. Division #1 also presented Bishop O’Hara with a $500 donation in support of Trinity House Retreat Center in Westchester.
The Officers and Members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), Myles Scully – Division #1 of Yonkers are proud to announce that they will hold their Annual Communion Breakfast on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers. Mass will begin at 10:00am in the Seminary’s Chapel followed by a full hot breakfast which will be served in the campus refectory.
The Guest Speaker for the breakfast will be the Most Reverend John O’Hara, who is an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of New York and serves as Episcopal Vicar of both southern Manhattan and Staten Island.
The Hibernians will also present the James McGinty Hibernian of the Year Award to Peter Van Slyck, who is Yonkers Police Officer and also serves as the current President of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester County.
The cost is $20 per person in advance and $25.00 the day of the event. Children under 10 are $10.00. Advance ticket deadline is February 22, 2017. Please see event flyer for details.
The AOH Myles Scully Division #1 of Yonkers held their Annual Communion Breakfast on Sunday, February 28th at St. Joseph’s Seminary at Dunwoodie. Over 150 people attended the event.
The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Nicholas Zientarski, who serves as The Dean of Seminarians. Fr. Nick welcomed the Hibernians back to the Seminary, where the breakfast has been held for the last 8 years.
Division #1 was honored to welcome many friends and supporters to the breakfast, including AOH National Director Charles “Chip” McLean, AOH New York State President Timothy McSweeney, AOH New York State Treasurer John Manning, and AOH State District Director Tom Beirne.
Breakfast was held in the Seminary Refectory, where attendees enjoyed a full hot breakfast.
Division #1 Officer Dennis O’Brien was received the James G. McGinty Yonkers Hibernian of the Year Award for his many years of outstanding service to both the AOH and the greater Irish Community in Yonkers. Barbara McGinty, wife of the late James, took part in the presentation.
The guest speaker was Fr. John Sheehan S.J. who spoke of both cultural and political forces today attempting to suppress both the Catholic Church and its teaching. Fr. Sheehan challenged everyone in attendance to become more aware of these threats and that Catholics needed to band together if it is to be stopped.
The Division was also able to present the Seminary with a $1,000 donation to support the seminarians on campus. The Hibernians also presented a $500 donation to the Xavier Society of the Blind, which Fr. Sheehan currently serves as the organization’s Chairman.
The Myles Scully, Division #1 of Yonkers will host their Annual Communion Breakfast at St. Joseph’s Seminary on Sunday, February 22, 2015. The event will begin with a mass at 10:00am in The Seminary’s Chapel followed by a full hot breakfast served in the Seminary Cafeteria.
The Guest Speaker will be Tommy Smyth, ESPN Commentator and Studio Analyst.
The Division will also honor their Hibernians of the Year, Larry McCrudden (Co-chairman Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee), and Patrick McLaughlin (Division One Historian).
Breakfast is $20.00 per adult, children under 10 are $10.00 in advance. The cost is $25.00 the day of the event.
