Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M. joined the NJ AOH in Atlantic Ocean to benefit Catholic schools in the fifth annual Polar Plunge held in Sea Bright. Organized by Division 2 of Monmouth County, the Polar Plunge raised over $100,000 in support local Catholic schools by providing tuition assistance to families. Since it began in 2007, the event has grown in popularity and attracted more schools each year from Monmouth and Ocean Counties, as well as schools from the Diocese of Metuchen. There is confirmation that the Bishop jumped in the cold ocean waters at the event. Prior to the plunge, Bishop O’Connell celebrated Mass with the AOH at Mary, Mother of God Church in Middletown, NJ.
