President’s Message – June 2013

The clean up and rebuilding from Sandy are still under-way. There are still a number of Sister and Brother Hibernians affected by this. Any way you can help will still be greatly appreciated. Brother John Manning has raffle tickets as a fundraiser for this cause.

Now that the parade season is behind us we start to focus on our State Convention. I ask all delegates to send in their con-vention registrations and package information as soon as possible. The two main ho-tels are sold out and the com-mittee is expecting dinner re-quests to start arriving. A re-minder, seating will be limited at some functions, so please
get your paper work in early. The committee is doing a great job and we are looking forward to an outstanding convention.

With a number of events still on the calendar I look forward to visiting many more Divi-sions over the next couple of months.

President’s Message – March 2013

The clean up from Sandy is still ongoing.  This is going to be a long process for some of our members. I ask that if you are able to assist in any way please do. The National Board is still accepting donations.

As National Charity and Missions Chair I ask that all Divisions and County Boards fill out the proper form and send it to me via email or hard copy. These forms also include man hours.

As State Sports Chair, Our State Bowling Tournament will be held in Schenectady on April 20, 2013. The James F. Hayes Golf Classic will again be held the Friday before our East Durham Board Meeting. The Date is May 3, 2013. The forms are included in this issue.

With St. Patrick’s Day comes the Marching Season. Please remember that you represent our Order.

I hope everyone has a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and a Holy Easter.

President’s Message – September 2012

WOW, what a great National Convention! Congratulations to Liam McNabb and his entire Committee. Congratulations also go out to our new National President, Brendan Moore, Reelected National Secretary, Tom McNabb and our new National Director Charles “Chip” McLean. Also congratulations to the new LAOH National Vice President, Mary Hogan. I thank the New York State Delegates who helped to elect me as National Director. On behalf of the NYS Board I extend a congratulation to all those who were elected at the National Convention both AOH and LAOH. I would like to thank AOH/NYS Vice President, Jim Burke, for Chairing the Hospitality Room at Turning Stone. In my humble opinion it was the BEST Hospitality Room.

National President Moore has also appointed me as National Charities and Missions Chairman. I ask all County Boards and Divisions to PLEASE make a list of ALL the donations you make. This information is important for many reasons. The amount of
money donated by the AOH seems to be a large amount, but we need the true figures to prove what we claim. A form will be available in the near future for you to send me this information.

The next State Board Meeting will be held in Auburn on November 3, 2012. In conjunction with this will be a joint State Presidents Testimonial Dinner. More information on this event will be out soon.

In closing on behalf of the NYS Board and all the Members of NYS I send our deepest sympathy to Della and Kevin Shannon on the loss of Pat.

Pat’s work for the Order will be greatly missed. His lessons and guidance to me personally were invaluable. May his legacy continue. Rest in Peace my friend.

President’s Message

The spring NYS Board Meeting is behind us. I would like to thank Fr. Henry Reid for saying the Mass and Peter Durkee for his work setting up the weekend.

By now, I hope everyone has their National Convention Delegates lined up, rooms re-served and packages purchased. I look forward to a FULL delegation. Anyone who would like to assist with the hospitality room should see Jim Burke at the Turning Stone.

All County and Division Presidents should have received a letter and flier from AOH/NYS Pro-Life Chairman, Matt Nelligan, and myself. Any donation you can make to Camp Esther would be greatly appreciated.

In closing, I would like to thank the New York State Board for giving me their unanimous endorsement for the office of AOH National Director.

President’s Message Feb. 2012

The division installations are over for another year. I would like to thank all the divisions who invited me to attend their installations this year. I had the honor to install 3 of my cousins as division presidents, 2 cousins as division officers and my son, Emmett, as a division sentinel.

Now St. Patrick’s Day is upon us. This means many parades and celebrations. I ask all Brothers to remember we are paying homage to OUR Patron Saint. PLEASE be respectful in all you do during this season.

I would like to invite any Brother and his family who would like to join the NYS Board as we march up 5th Avenue on March 17th. There is a dress code. No jeans, tennis shoes (sneakers) or sweat shirts.

Our Spring NYS Board Meeting will be held in East Durham on May 5, 2012. I am expecting a multitude of candidates for national office to be in attendance. This will be a great chance for our members to meet these candidates in a non convention pressured atmosphere.

As I mentioned in the previous ESH, The National Convention will be held at Turning Stone July 9th – 13th 2012. Delegates should make their room reservations ASAP. I am expecting our State to have a FULL Delegation.

Have a safe and Happy St. Patrick’s Day and a Holy Easter.

Your in our Motto,

Michael J. McNabb
IBTGOG

I will start this report with a thank you to our AOH/NYS Chaplain, Fr. Henry Reid, for celebrating our AOH/NYS Pro-Life Mass. Thank you to AOH/NYS Pro-Life Chairman Matt Nelligan for coordinating the Mass. I would also like to thank Owen Cole and our Schenectady sister and brother Hibernians for hosting our Mass, State Board Meetings and the mixed doubles bowling.

At our Board Meeting the following were unanimously endorsed for National Office: Brendan Moore – President, Judge James McKay – Vice-President, Tom McNabb – Secretary and Charles “Chip” McLean – Director.

I hope everyone is starting to make their plans to attend the National Convention at the Turning Stone in Verona, NY July 9- 13, 2012. I am expecting our State to have a FULL Delegation in attendance.

On November 5, the contract was signed with the Holiday Inn in Saratoga for our 2013 State Convention. Also on that day the final checks and paperwork from the 2011 Convention in Rockland were received. A final report should be completed by the time this edition of the ESH goes to print.

Our next State Board Meeting will be May 5, 2012 in East Durham. This will be preceded on Friday, May 4 with the James F. Hayes Golf Classic. This golf tournament is the main fundraiser for the Austin V. Carew Scholarship Fund. If you have never golfed in this, you are missing a fun filled day. The weekend will conclude with our annual pilgrimage to Our Lady of Knock Shrine for Mass. AOH/NYS Catholic Action Chairman, Peter Durkee, has informed me he is already working on the weekend.

President’s Message

I must also thank Pearl River for hosting an outstanding Convention.

There is much work ahead for the new Board. We will have a wrap up meeting in Pearl River as soon as all the reports are completed.

We will also be going to Saratoga to go over the contract for the 2013 AOH/NYS Convention on November 5, 2011.

I am pleased to announce that Steve Curran will be the 2013 AOH/NYS Convention Chairman. The local Chairman will be Chris Burgman.

The new AOH/NYS Web Site is up and running. I thank Web Master Joe McDonald for all the time he dedicated to completing this endeavor.

Our next AOH/NYS Board Meeting will be held in Schenectady, NY on Saturday October 22, 2011. The day will start at 9:00am with a Pro-Life Mass. The Board Meeting will start at 10:30am SHARP.  At 2:00pm the AOH/NYS Mixed Doubles Bowling will be held followed by a dinner at the Schenectady Hall. I hope you are able to participate in all three events.
