Orange County AOH Division 2 held a Veteran Pin Distribution Ceremony in their Irish Cultural Center in Cornwall, NY on Sunday, April 22, 2018. The event saw sixteen of the twenty-two division members who are military veterans receive their newly minted Ancient Order of Hibernians Veteran’s Service Pin. Two of the sixteen remain active duty military–Staff SGT Ray Theriot, serving at West Point was present to receive his pin. SGT Logan Cummings, US Army is stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri received his pin by proxy when it was presented in his absence to his mother, Rose Cummings.
The guest speaker for the event was Major Thomas M. Maguire, of the New York Air National Guard who eloquently linked The Motto of the Order–Friendship, Unity and Charity–to the ideals of military service. At the conclusion of his remarks, Major Maguire personally pinned each member who then introduced themselves to the audience by providing their name, military branch and rank. Members who were present represented the US Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, and served from World War II through the military actions in Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq. A special celebration followed the pinning ceremony to further honor the veteran members. Special thanks to Major Tom Maguire for spending the day with the division.
