James Walsh, 73, of Orangeburg, formerly of Paramus, NJ entered into eternal life on November 13, 2017. Jim died peacefully at Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City after suffering a long illness.
Jim was born in New York City and was educated at St. Luke’s Elementary School in the Bronx and St. Joseph’s School in Metuchen, NJ. Jim was employed at J. Walter Thompson and Canadian Pacific. He then worked for NY Telephone/ NYNEX/ Verizon, where he retired after 30 years. Jim also served as a Sergeant in the Air Force National Guard.
Jim was a long-time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 3, in Pearl River, where he had been the House President. He was also a member in good standing of the American Legion Post 329 in Pearl River and the Irish Arts Forum.
Jim was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Ann Walsh of Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo, Ireland and the Bronx, his sister Sr. Gilmary Walsh, O.P. of Blauvelt and his brother John of Stuart, FL.
He is survived by his sister, Bridget Ann (BeAnn) Mullins of Millsboro, DE; his nephews, John Mullins of West Nyack, Brian Mullins of Maricopa, AZ, Daniel Walsh of Stuart, FL; his nieces, Elizabeth Walsh of Mountainside, NJ and Mary Walsh of Brooklyn; his grand nieces Alexandra Mullins, Alanna Mullins, Sofia Mullins and Hazel Kulpa; and his brother-in-law Jack Mullins of Millsboro, DE and sister-in-law Louise Walsh of Stuart, FL.
A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, 10am, at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan followed by a private cremation. Visiting hours will be Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s name to the United Hospice of Rockland would be greatly appreciated (www.hospiceofrockland.org).
